Downtown Front Royal is the hub of Front Royal. The old town charm includes varied shops from art galleries, specialty outfitters, coffee shops, wine shops, casual to fine dining, to Japanese art. Front Royal is experiencing a renewed interest in service and specialty items. The Gazebo serves as the center of an attractive green space where summer concerts are held on the lawn on Friday night sponsored by The Blue Ridge Arts Council. The old movie theater was restored and now houses three film screens to keep everyone's interest. Downtown Front Royal is the place to be in any season.
The Town of Front Royal is committed to the vitality of its Downtown District. Below is a list of current and ongoing projects for fiscal 2006-2007 and projected 2008:
...Paved Main Street...Re-Striped parking spaces & crosswalks...Repairing & replacing damaged benches...Replacing trash containers with new, larger containers...Created crosswalk in front of Town Hall...Town has two staff personnel who are newly certified for herbicide application...Town has purchased additional herbicide spraying equipment to handle the increased Downtown areas...Rebuilt dumpster area in Peyton Street parking lot...Installed "Mutt Mits" in Gazebo area for pet waste...Placed & maintain flower boxes across from Visitor Center...Town purchased new sidewalk cleaning equipment...Town established power washing program for sidewalks & Gazebo areas...Ready to present to Council the new directional signs to key Downtown areas...In process of painting North Royal/Main Street Traffic light poles...Upgrading Town entry signs...Starting Rt. 55 Entry Beautification Program...Upgraded Christmas decorations for Downtown...Installed new and repaired existing handicapped ramps & crosswalks on Main Street...Repairing sidewalk area along Main Street...Town has invested over $200,000 in repairs & upgrades in the Downtown area over the last two years...Started the plans to install new replacement trees & tree pit areas Downtown
